The martyred priest Aurel Negoescu (Neagovici) was born on 27 May 1900 in Întorsura Buzăului, Covasna County. His father, priest Gheorghe Neagovici Negoescu, was a member of the Neagovici Negoescu family of priests, who for over 200 years shepherded the Romanian Orthodox faithful in the Buzăului Ardelean Depression and laid the foundations of Romanian confessional education in the area.
