“I hold him in high and deep esteem”
The following thought leads me to Mr. Nae Dumitrescu, whose education seemed honourable to me because he had studied in Antwerp. He was also a member of the 6th Column. He was a great beekeeper, he knew everything that could be made from honey and everything that a bee could produce. Nae Dumitrescu was a kind, patient and reasonable man, also known as a friend of Mr. Zamfiroiu Grigore, whom I have only mentioned in passing. Straightforward and self-confident, professor of psychology, he taught Romanian language and literature, and was very close, even a friend, to Telu Udroiu, a very down to earth and resourceful young man. They were all Legionaries. Friendly, open, communicative, big-hearted people, able to help anyone and everyone.
I remember how, in a beautiful conference, he analysed one of the most interesting poems of Eminescu. “Evening on the hill”.
Mr. Zamfiroiu’s essay was widely applauded, not only for its coherence and its beautiful, rich and italicised vocabulary, but also for the depth of his thought, in surprising comparisons and unusual metaphors. I have held him in high and deep esteem ever since.
