Protopope Ioan Duma, a pillar of the Church brought down by the communists

Ioan Duma was born on 30 March 1884 in the village of Boian, Târnava Mică County, as one of 14 children of Vasile Duma, a ploughman, and his wife Rafilei. He attended primary school in his native village, then in Saroș, in Hungarian. Between 1889 and 1903, he attended the gymnasium in Blaj, and between 1903 and 1909, he attended the Theological Academy in Sibiu, graduating as valedictorian.
