Mirela: “For me the Holy Martyrs are a model of sacrifice and dedication in and for Christ”
I knew absolutely nothing about the Holy Martyrs, about their sacrifice for the nation, until, by the grace of God, in a moment of confusion and despair, a book about Valeriu Gafencu fell into my hands. Five years ago, at the age of 24, I was diagnosed with advanced lymphatic cancer. I can say that this was the moment when God, through the Holy Martyrs, tried to bring me back to the faith. I began to search, to pray, to visit the saints as often as I could, to read about the sufferings I had endured, and the fruits did not cease to appear. A great joy, among many others, was my recovery, to the astonishment of the doctors who had given me a minimal chance of living.
One of the miracles of the Holy Martyrs is that they interceded with God for me to have a competent confessor, a father who had experienced first-hand what happened in the communist prisons and who would guide me on the path to salvation.
Whether they have won me to Christ or not, only God can know whether my life is pleasing to Him, but what is certain is that for me the Holy Martyrs are a model of sacrifice and devotion in and for Christ, and having the Holy Martyrs as intercessors for us will certainly bring us closer to the Church and the moral values of this nation.
I urge you all to seek the help of the Holy Martyrs, who are always helpful in all circumstances, and to ask them to give us strength and patience in the struggle ahead, so that we too may rejoice with Christ at the Resurrection.
I wish you peace and good growth in all things!
