The sufferings of Father Gheorghe Beșchea in Aiud prison
Gheorghe Beșchea, a priest from the commune of Mărăcineni, Buzău County, had ankylosing spondylitis and was confined to bed all day, with no doctors to help him. While I was with him in the cell, I went out every day to report him so that he could be registered for a medical visit. Although some guards threatened to put me in solitary confinement, I didn’t give in and finally managed to take him to the infirmary with another prisoner from our cell. After 1964 I found out that he had been released from prison and had settled in Ploiești with one of his sons. His wife was a teacher and the author of two volumes of poetry. One of the volumes had a preface written by Nichifor Crainic.
