Vasile Voiculescu – a supplicant and a confessor
He passed among us modestly, silently, discreetly, almost unnoticed, leaving in our souls heavenly beauties, angelic wings, human splendour. Lacking dynamism and aggressiveness, he was a contemplative, a supplicant, a confessor. Carefully and painstakingly, he polished his soul until he saw the heavens open. Reading him makes us as beautiful and good as his soul.
His poetry has climbed the last rungs of Romanian lyricism and is a candidate for the first. In the sonnets after Shakespeare, the poet has reached the core of Christian expression, presented in its mystical and human dimension. He also wrote prose. He was an active participant in the “Burning Bush” movement in the monastery of Antim, for which he was also condemned. When his illness had already destroyed him, he was released to die at home. Vasile Voiculescu was not published. Vasile Voiculescu is not yet spoken of. Vasile Voiculescu will be spoken about in the future. Doctor, poet and mystic – Vasile Voiculescu.
